Brooke Hessler

Brooke Hessler, Ph.D. is the Director of Learning Resources at California College of the Arts, where she is an advocate for Universal Design for Learning through participatory media. She also serves as a digital storytelling facilitator for StoryCenter. As a community literacy activist and digital writing professor, Brooke has taught and researched multimodal storytelling since 1999, with community partners ranging from survivors of terrorism and tornadoes to inner-city school children and performance artists. She has co-facilitated digital storytelling workshops on four continents and mentored hundreds of students in the U.S. and Singapore as storyworkers. Her scholarship and methods have appeared in numerous publications including the International Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Teaching Naked Techniques (Jossey-Bass 2017), and Digital Storytelling in Higher Education (Palgrave 2017). With Joe Lambert, Brooke co-authored the 5th edition of Digital Storytelling: Capturing Lives, Creating Community (Routledge 2018)
